Feature Friday: Just Food Co-Op

By May 8, 2015 Tenants

Just Food Co-op was founded as a member-owned consumer cooperative by a small group of Northfield residents who were looking for a market to purchase fresh and local all-natural and organic food. The Co-op opened in December 2004 and currently is owned by nearly 3,000 members.

Just Food has experienced steady growth since 2012 and is currently planning to expand its retail footprint in order to better serve the Northfield community with additional products and services, such as larger Prepared Foods, Deli, Meat, and Produce departments.

Northfield is an ideal community for a cooperatively owned grocery store, with two colleges, an active downtown business district and many local growers and producers to support. We’re fortunate to be located in a stand-alone building with off-street parking at what you might consider to be the ‘gateway’ to downtown Northfield. The building has been used for different purposes over the years, but is ideal for a retail store front. One unique feature that we’ve incorporated into our footprint is a Community Room–a dedicated room that Co-op members can reserve, at no cost, for functions such as meetings and birthday parties.

If I could give one piece of advice to other businesses looking for space, I’d say that while location, size, and price are the top factors that may drive your decision, it’s equally important to partner with a building owner that is truly interested in your business and invested in its long term success.
