A member of our marketing team joined Chris Kennelly for a day, which led them across Northfield, doing work for both Northfield Construction Company as well as Bluewater Properties. Take a peek at just one portion of what she captured from the day!
11:30 – Meeting with Otto the Construction Dog and Tyler, one of NCC’s newest project managers.
Chris and Tyler are preparing for a conference call with the architect of a pre-fabricated, or “kit” home they are planning to build, which is also a Forever home (one that allows the residents to age comfortably in place). The two are preparing to discuss roles and logistics with all members of the build, such as who will clear trees. They will also address best practices and customizations, since this is the first kit home of this type.
Because the NCC team had a pre-construction agreement with the client to work out a feasible budget, Chris plans to value engineer parts of the project. This involves sorting through budgets, files, and emails, as well as researching what materials need to be brought in to fill the clients’ needs.
12:30 – Lunch at Gran Plaza, a Bluewater tenant at Heritage Square.
While checking in with a tenant of Bluewater, Chris’ other business, we grabbed a great lunch, interrupted now and then by business calls. We discussed Bluewater’s newest venture, Blue Inc. The project falls in line with their values, as Northfield Real Estate Fund, who owns Bluewater, focuses on doing good for the community. Blue Inc. will foster growth for area businesses, and perhaps even non-profits.
1:00 – Meeting at Blue Inc.
We met up with Chris Ekern and Sign Pro at the future site of Blue Inc. We discussed exterior, digital signage, as well as internal signage such as office numbers and bathrooms.
1:30 – Meeting at Phoenix Building
Consulting with Sign Pro and residents to accommodate signage for a new tenant, Northfield Physical Therapy.
We then toured the space in the Phoenix Building that will be the new home of Northfield Physical Therapy. Bluewater Commercial Real Estate is the property manager for the building, and Northfield Construction Company is completing the fit-up–a complete remodel and customization of the interior.
3:00 – Conference call with the architect of NCC’s pre-fabricated home.
Even during breaks, Chris never stopped moving. Phone calls must be answered, decisions made, and instructions given. It’s a non-stop kind of job, but the work itself proves engaging.
