With many businesses preparing to close during the holiday season, you want to make sure you leave your office in great condition. You can start by making a checklist of all the tasks you and your staff need to complete before going on vacation. To help you, we’ve put together a quick list of things you can do to prepare your office for a holiday break.
- Notify your staff of all office closures. Before you head out on your holiday vacation, notify your staff of any office closures. Post closure dates in a public area for all employees to see. Send out an email to your office detailing closures over the holiday season.
- Keep your customers and clients informed. You don’t want to go on your holiday vacation without notifying any clients/customers about your absence. Prepare an “out of office” email, including the dates of when you will return. Set your office phone recording to detail any out of office information you may want a client to know while you’re away. Post a visible notification outside of your office with closure and emergency contact information.
- Double check your schedules. Double check to make sure you haven’t accidentally set up any meetings or deliveries over the holiday season. If you notice a mistake, call to reschedule as soon as possible.
- Do a quick clean. Have your employees clean their work stations before they go on break. Empty out any trash cans or recycling bins before you lock up the doors. You may also want to throw out any food in the break room that could spoil during your absence.
- Unplug to save energy. Before closing down your office, unplug any appliances (i.e. holiday decorations, lights, printers, etc.) to save energy while you’re away. Make sure to turn off the lights before you leave.
- Don’t forget to motivate your employees. With holiday office closures just around the corner, you want to make sure your staff stays motivated throughout the seasonal slump. Reward your staff with a holiday office party. Offer incentives for performance and productivity until the end of the year. Host a food or gift drive. Have your employees post their New Year Resolutions on a public office board. For more ways to motivate your employees during the holidays, check out this great article.
